The Silver Coast is the new golfing destination for Portugal. It is now widely favoured by golf enthusiasts as the courses are quieter, cheaper and some better than the Algarve! There are a large variety of courses available from true links to mainland courses with the likes of Praia D'El Rey, Penha Longa, Oitavos and Golden Eagles all having great reviews.
Praia D'el Rey is certainly one of the most picturesque layouts in Europe, set in extensive grounds of pine forest and undulating dunes with spectacular views over the Atlantic and the Berlenga Islands beyond. The course is visually stunning and tremendously exciting to play. Because of the endless variations of the terrain you'll never play it the same. One of the advantages resides in the excellent location, in the Western Region,an hour distance from Lisbon, and scarce kilometers of Óbidos.
Golden Eagle is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and challenging courses in Portugal. Designed by renowned architect Rocky Roquemore, the golf course has a beautifully manicured layout, comprising a challenging par 72, with tees to suit all abilities. The course meanders through a beautiful natural landscape of gentle rolling hills and pine trees, with each hole carrying its own individual characteristics, decorated with 9 lakes with eye-catching sprays and fountains.
Bom Sucesso Golf has been designed by the world-renowned architect Donald Steel and opened in the Spring of 2008. It is a par 72 golf course with an area exceeding 600 thousand square meters. The first nine holes are played on a level part of the terrain, while the second nine are located on uneven terrain, and are therefore quite spectacular and challenging.
Set amidst dramatic rolling hills and steep wooded valleys, the Camporeal Golf course is a great challenge and will delight even the most experienced players. Enjoyable, beautiful and serene, it is a course matched only by the 5-star clubhouse and superb members' facilities.
Situated in one of the most pleasant places of the Portuguese coast, between Cascais and the Guincho, Quinta da Marinha Golf offers stimulating challenges amidst the natural beauty of a variety of landscapes. The 5845-metre course takes you past calm lakes and secret pine woods, with breathtaking views of the hills on one side and ocean on the other.
Located in the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, the routing is a continuous loop of holes, nine out nine in, similar to links courses in Scotland. The sequence is an undisturbed golf experience from start to finish. Distant views of the Atlantic Ocean, presence of the sea, accompanied by the beauty of the Mountains of Sintra and by the End of the Rock, the most western point of Continental Europe are distinguishable from every hole. Oitavos Golf is the 1st golf course in Europe and the 2nd in the World recognized as “Certified Signature Sanctuary – Gold”.
This course enjoys championship characteristics and beautiful panoramic views over the Sintra mountain range. The Atlântico is a fabulous 18-hole course designed to best take account of the steeply sloping terrain and some of the most excellent views of the surrounding landscape. The Mosteiro is a 9-hole course, offering a new alternative to the existing course. The Mosteiro is less undulating then the Atlântico course and so presents fewer difficulties for the player. This course requires high handicaps and challenges players with its fast greens and narrow fairways.
Overlooking Estoril and the sea, the 5,262 metre-long course is set amongst eucalyptus, pine and mimosa trees, giving it a uniquely colourful touch. The Estoril Golf Club has been here since 1945. Two of the most important tournaments in the Portuguese golfing calendar have been held frequently on this course: the Portuguese Open, 20 times and the International Amateur Championship ,62 times.
